ECPI Stockholm Meeting in March 2012

The ECPI meet from March 15th, 2012 to March 17th, 2012 for their first session on the premises of the University of Stockholm. The group discussed the positive feedback they had received from lawmakers at the European level regarding their (first) manifesto, which outlines general principles of European law for the enactment of criminal laws and respective directives. The Council of the European Union and the European Commission have both welcomed the ideas set forth in the Manifesto and have begun to work out general guidelines for their work in the field of criminal law. A similar discussion is held in the European Parliament. The group went on to establish a common framework for the future work on developing guidelines for the European legislative acts influencing the laws of criminal procedure based on their experiences with the first manifesto and the respective comments and suggestions the group received from scholars and legal practitioners.
